About Ash and District Photo Club

The Ash & District Photo Club is a self-help group aimed mainly at retired people who have an interest in any aspect of photography. Members from beginners to those with considerable experience are welcome. We meet monthly, during the afternoon, and divide our meeting into a few parts including a “how to do it” subject, a review of members pictures on a chosen theme and time for problems, gossip and show off.

For our “how to do it” subjects members are encouraged to give a short, informal talk on a subject in which they have an interest. Care is taken to balance these subjects across the range of experience in the club.

Each month we choose a subject for a picture review. Members are encouraged to take up to three photos of a subject chosen by the group at the previous meeting. At the following meeting the club will look at the results and talk about any issues or ideas that were found or used. These pictures do not have to be perfect. This is not a competition and presenting one that went wrong could provide as much useful knowledge to the group as a perfect one. Last year we certainly had fun looking at our pictures on subjects that included; Still Life, Round, Mystery Object or Place, Black and White, and Movement.

Once a year we hold a competition

We meet on the third Thursday of each month from 2-4pm in the rear hall at The Victoria Hall, Ash Hill Road Ash, GU12 5DN. We are a very friendly group and would love to welcome some new members. Please get in touch if you would like more information.

As usual at this time of the year the December meeting of the Ash and District Photo Club will be a social event with time to show favourite photos from the year or demonstrate new techniques learned. We will also enjoy member's photos of doors and windows while enjoying drinks and nibbles.

At the November meeting we revised the rules of composition and looked at photos on the subject of weather. Always tricky to photograph, the rainbow photo above was captured by Barbara Wright a few years ago. This is just as it was taken with no touching up

Ash Photo Club November 2017 Meeting

The October meeting of the photo club was fun and informative. Some of the members shared the accessories they use to help their photography and these were many and varied from a huge black velvet cloth to tripods of all kinds, wrist straps, and a tiny gadget to turn a phone camera into a microscope. We also enjoyed photos on the subject of diagonals with a fair sprinkling of abstract diagonals too.

The next meeting is on November 16th. There will be a talk about composition and we will share photos of the weather. Please get in touch if you would like more information.
